It’s not Ilya’s fault that Pork gets out.
Okay, well, maybe a little bit. But it is almost equally Shane’s fault.
The facts are thus: Ilya’s home nursing an injury, and Shane’s on a roadie, and maybe he and Shane have managed to get a little codependent after just one season playing together.
And so, while Ilya was making lunch, he got distracted by his very pretty husband facetiming him from the hotel shower. And perhaps the water evaporated and the noodles caught fire a bit.
And in the chaos of smoke and fire extinguishers and flinging open every window and door in the house – Well. Pork’s always been a bit of an escape artist.
Or: Shane’s horrible hairless cat gets out and Ilya has to hunt down his least favourite child.

When Lindsay, the team operations manager, had pulled them into a meeting to discuss the rooming arrangements for the season, he’d been expecting Shane to get flustered, and turn bright red, and stammer out something like we wouldn’t want to make anyone on the team uncomfortable. Ilya, in fact, had just opened his mouth to say as much to her, but Shane beat him to the punch.
“If it can be arranged and doesn’t throw off anything, that’d be great,” Shane said.
Ilya gaped at him. “You want to room together?”
Shane just looked baffled. “What do you mean? We’re married. Of course we’re rooming together.”

Summary
The part of Shane that is not panicking goes soft with how…eager Ilya seems for Shane and Svetlana to meet, for Shane to like her. It’s strange, it’s new, it’s wonderful to be able to think about making plans like this. Dinner with Shane’s parents, meeting Ilya’s friends, like that’s something they can have.
So that’s why Shane beats down the urge to crank up the gas on the stove and light a match, gives Ilya a wide and normal grin, and says “Yeah, of course. I’d love to meet Svetlana.”
Ilya sighs and his eyes light up and, oh, Shane wants to love him in the light of day. Suddenly, Shane has an idea that will hopefully stop him from doing something rash that will get him on the news and/or in prison. “And you should meet Rose!”
