Maximilian is afraid but more than that she is confused as she is led by her nanny to one of the back rooms
It wasn't that room so there is some relief flooding through her veins as she stands before the door. It was one of the grander rooms used for guests, though compared to the rest of the castle it was less than impressive.
Perfect for whatever was in there for Maximilian.
Her nanny stepped up and opened the door, causing Maximilian's gray eyes to widen in surprise as a surge of fear coursed up her spine.
In the room with her father and some of his knights....was Sir Riftan Calypse.

Summary
The patterns on Jinu's body were proof of his sins, greed, and selfishness. Ugly jagged marks over his body. Leaving nothing untouched. The proud display of his choices. He remembers when they first appeared, slowly creeping up his body like ivy. Consuming him like his body was an empty home left to rot.
Which really wasn't far from the truth.
It was painful, a burning sensation like being branded by a hot iron. Though, instead of one area it was everywhere all at once engulfing him in the flames.
Gwi-ma's flames.
It was what Jinu deserved, if not more.
And they're nothing like hers.

Summary
Every night, especially the nights Maxi limped from that room to the annex, hugging her body close for some semblance of warmth. She would whisper that desperate prayer to God.
For a knight. The strongest knight to come and save her, to sweep her into his arms and run off with her, and Maximilian would never look back, the sun warm on her skin as he touches her face and kisses her.
"Maximilian, Maximilian." He would whisper against her lips, gaze soft as her heart pounded in her chest. "I apologize for taking so long."
She would pull him close to her and laugh like she never had before, because finally, she was free.
A desperate, illogical, selfish prayer.

Summary
Blood covered his chin and the floor - strangely littered and covered in blue petals. It was like she was being pulled into a deep cave as she looked at Riftan and saw what seemed to be horror or even fear for the first time that was etched onto his handsome features. His dark, almost black eyes looked up at her face , and he gasped for breath as his calloused hands shook as they grabbed her wrists, pushing her away. It was then that Heberon and Ursuline lifted him.
Maxi slowly stood, her hands hovering out as if he would fall again - like she could catch him despite the fact his large body would only pull her down with him with him once more. She knew all too well that she was too small and he was too large, but her heart pounded in her ears. All that mattered was he didn't fall again.

It's the beginning of Etherias, and Riftan is 14 now and has just killed his first man.
His dark eyes widened as the red and orange rays of the sunset bleed into the darkness around him. The man slumps on top of him, gasping in his ear as Riftan lies there stunned. The warm blood seeped into his gloves. Suddenly, he pushes the man off of him, ignoring the sickening thud and the death rattle breath that escapes the corpse.

But now it wasn’t an unwanted stop as he held her against him, their sweaty legs tangled together as he pressed his ear to her chest, listening to the soft, slowing thumping of her heart against him and Maximilian’s soft snores above him, which made his own lips turn up slightly in amusement at the revelation.
Never before did he imagine the girl.…his wife...Maximilian...Maxi…would be a snorer. It was completely adorable and just made his own already soft heart melt towards her more like it was even possible. Languidly, his eyes moved to where her hand rested against her stomach over the blanket right under his arm, making him sit up slightly before reaching down and holding it.
______In which Riftan experiences the softness unquie to Maximilian.

Summary
Maximilian had finally fallen asleep.
Riftan slowly opened his bleary eyes, exhaustion flooded through his body. A good ache in his limbs as his arm lifted and placed his hand, slowly...carefully, on Maxmilian's thin, delicate shoulder.
Her snow-white skin seemed to glow in the blueish light of the moon peaking from the curtains. It felt like a dream. Riftan was sure at any moment, he would awaken again to the cold, frigid air of the Lexus Mountains. It would be so cold at times it hurt to breathe, his joints aching and heart pounding as he would stare up at the ceiling of his tent, the dreams of the night before fading as the light outside grew brighter.
But it didn't happen.

Summary
It's not apparent at first.
The difference, that is.
His hair is a little longer, and there are lines on his face she sure weren't there before. He looks tired as well. Dark circles are under his eyes now that Robin is getting a proper look at him, the hum of disbelief and happiness settling in the back of her mind.
Chroms touches linger longer, the small of her back, on her shoulder. It's nothing unusual, and Robin thinks maybe she's just more sensitive after....whatever happened. But there seems to be a.....hesitation, and sometimes it feels he holds too tight when he hugs her when they're alone and how his face buries in the crook of her neck and breathes her in.
Robin leans into it, but something unsettles her when he pulls back and smiles at her, his hand touching her cheek... fingers grazing down to cup her jaw.
His smile is strained, she realizes.

Months have passed since the calamity ended, and rebuilding has begun. Despite how Purah and Impa wanted Zelda to rest but the princess was determined to move on to a brighter future for Hyrule.
Though now it was just her and Link in the little house he bought for her (in his words though she considered it 'theirs' if anything) during his adventure to save her. It felt like weeks since it was just them, and Zelda cherished the feeling of being alone with him without others' eyes on her.
