Work Text:
Yoongi had never considered himself to be a particularly interesting person. Sure, there were things he was passionate about, but in general he thought he was pretty laid back. He would have never thought that this quality would make him realize that supernatural beings were actually real.
Because they didn’t stop mistaking him for one.
At this point, he had probably seen it all - Vampires, Werewolves, Sirens, Sprites and Ghosts and minor deities and maybe even a demon, if he reconsidered the definition. And it was funny, in a way, that they all found something about him that convinced them that he had to belong to them!
So when he sat in the studio, quietly working while Namjoon was out getting them coffee, he wasn’t too surprised when one of the cameramen knocked on the door with the look. He knew the one, so he turned around in his chair and smiled politely and waited for what it would be this time.
“I hope you don’t mind, Yoongi-ssi, I just wanted to know which clan you belong to? I mean, I haven’t met many of our people here so...” He looked around nervously, and it was almost adorable, but Yoongi still couldn't do much about it.
“You know the Kims? The ones from the North?”
The cameraman’s eyes widened and he nodded in awe. “Yes, I do. Wow, they are so powerful.”
“I know. They asked me the same thing, and I might know one of them who lives not too far away, because I’m really just a human.” He smiled apologetically when he saw the other’s face fall.
“But you give off this vibe...”
“I know,” Yoongi said, and he felt so tired. “But I’m nothing special. Let me ask my friend though and maybe you can connect with someone else?”
“From the Kims? Wow, that would be... wow.”
Yoongi nodded and ushered the other one out when he decided that he had listened to enough thanks. He wasn’t even sure if he could do something anyway, so it was making him really uncomfortable.
A few minutes later, Namjoon finally came back and Yoongi grabbed the iced Americano impatiently. “I had another one coming over,” he said in between a few gulps. “One of yours.”
“Oh?” Namjoon said, and Yoongi wanted to wipe the amusement off his smug face. “Who was it?”
“A lonely cameraman from a small clan who would really love to be your friend!” Yoongi said, and watching in satisfaction as Namjoon’s face turned sour.
“Ugh, did you tell him it was me? They always act like fanboys...”
“I didn’t,” Yoongi said, “and he definitely won’t suspect it. You don’t look like it.”
Namjoon rolled his eyes, and yes, maybe the pale skin and the sunlight and the garlic was all bullshit, and maybe Twilight had lied to them all, but that didn’t mean Yoongi didn’t use every opportunity to tease Namjoon about it anyway. Because in the end, every supernatural creature working for Bighit would come to Yoongi, even when the real one was sitting right next to him. He deserved to tease as compensation. Or something like that.
“Aw, don’t pout, I know you suffer from being so popular.” Namjoon put his drink down and rolled his chair over, and Yoongi really wanted to be petty for a little longer, but when Namjoon twirled him around he could barely keep his smile down.
“I wonder what we can do about it...”
Yoongi pushed his chin out, daring Namjoon and he of course complied, leaning in and pressing a soft kiss against Yoongi’s lips.
“Hm, I think you can do better than that,” Yoongi whispered, and he felt Namjoon smiling before he leaned in for a slightly longer, slightly deeper kiss. It felt... nice. Of course they were still at work and it was better not to get too riled up, but still. He liked the slight taste of coffee on their lips, the tiny thrill. It made his heart pump a little faster.
“Can I?” Namjoon whispered back, licking his slightly red lips. Still fine, still excusable. But they should stop soon, so Yoongi nodded and Namjoon took his delicate wrist, rubbing his thumb over it.
They weren’t cold. Another misconception. Namjoon didn’t even live from blood alone, he ate like a normal person, but... he definitely needed it to survive anyway. Yoongi couldn’t feed him all on his own, but he could be a willing snack. A loving one. He inhaled softly when he saw Namjoon’s teeth coming out, just a little longer than human ones, just a little sharper, and he gasped when he felt them prick his skin. It wasn’t a bad feeling, if he was being honest. He didn’t loose enough blood to actually feel faint, and having Namjoon suck so gently on his wrist let him sometimes think about other places he could suck-
“Stop being horny,” Namjoon said, licking a stray drop of blood away.
“Stop being sexy then,” he retorted, and even though he would love to follow up on that, he knew that they had neither enough time for it nor was it the right place. But maybe... hm, later.
Yoongi thought that he knew everyone in the band really well. They’ve been together for a few years by now, they’ve made it through a very tedious time of having to sleep in one room, but there were still secrets, it seemed. Because he knew that something was up when he saw Jungkook peeking his head in, with his big eyes and the nervous tap of his fingers on the door.
“Hyung, do you have a minute?”
Yoongi waved him over, sitting up in his bed. It was early evening, and Seokjin was still at work, while Yoongi had a rare evening off and decided to just... do nothing for a bit. But if one of his dongsaengs needed help it had always priority.
“What’s up? Did something happen?”
Jungkook sat down, carefully tucking his legs under in that awful way that always caused Yoongi phantom pain.
“Not exactly... I just... hyung, I thought I should tell you. I didn’t want to, since you never, like, hinted at wanting to tell me, but...”
“What is it?” Yoongi asked, but he already knew. Though he was morbidly curious to find out what kind of creature Jungkook turned out to be. He hoped he wasn’t a werewolf, though, but that seemed unlikely, there was no way he could’ve hid reoccurring transformations from all of them...
“So...” Jungkook lifted his hands up, rubbed over his ears, and then rubbed over his whole head. When he let them flop down again, his ears were gone, but a pair of long, fuzzy ones appeared on the top of his head instead. That... was new. “I know our people aren’t in much contact, but you’re from Swerouz, right?”
“What?” Yoongi only said, still mesmerized by the bunny ears. Or... maybe not bunny, they had a weird color and the skin inside had an interesting texture. He wondered if he would be allowed to touch.
“Your planet? Or are you from somewhere else?”
Yoongi let out a loud laugh, almost choking on it when he tried to keep it in immediately. “You are an alien?” he finally blurted out, and Jungkook looked so confused that he almost started laughing again.
“Yes? I mean, you are one as well, right? Right, hyung?” He was starting to get a little hysterical and his face started to change, his cute eyes turning even bigger and even blacker, and his teeth even longer... and sharper... Yoongi felt a very unwelcome sense of dread, not even the demon had made him quite that afraid, but... it was still Jungkook, who was way too sweet for his own good. Well, most of the time. He wasn’t going to eat him. Probably.
“Uhm, I’m not an alien, no. I’m just a regular human. But I’ve never met one, so that’s... exciting.” He tried to smile but those teeth were really disconcerting and now his skin started to turn an unhealthy shade of green-yellow. “Is this what you really look like?”
Jungkook startled, he had probably not even realized that he had let his guard down and much to Yoongi’s relief he turned back into the face that Yoongi knew and loved.
“I’m so sorry hyung, I was so sure!”
“Oh, don’t worry about it, you’re not the first...” Yoongi said before he realized what he had just blurted out. Damn.
“What do you mean?” Jungkook asked, carefully squinting at Yoongi. “Who else is an alien?”
Yoongi fiddled with the blanket, unsure if he should just tell the truth and live with Namjoon being pissed at him for a while or try to deflect, but Jungkook looked truly heartbroken, so he said: “Not an alien, exactly, but not a human either.” Or maybe... “Kook-ah, you know what? We should have a meeting, all of us. I thought Namjoon was the only one but I was wrong and even if it was just you two I think it’s only fair that we talk about it.”
“Namjoonie-hyung is not a human?” Jungkook shrieked, his eyes definitely wider than humanely possible and... yes, this didn’t go quite as he had planned.
“Nope, he’s not, so let’s have that meeting right away! I’ll call hyung. And...” He put his phone down that he had already grabbed and robbed over to Jungkook, all tiny and miserable. He wondered if he had been considered a child by his people as well when he came to Earth, how it must have felt to leave everything behind, to try and start new in a completely different world, with people who probably looked just as strange to him as Jungkook did to them... so he did the only right thing and pulled him into a tight hug.
“Don’t worry, we all love you. No one will be mad at you for keeping it to yourself.” Jungkook nodded and hugged him harder, and that were definitely claws digging into Yoongi’s back. He did his best not to grunt. “There might be a lot of questions though.”
“That’s okay,” Jungkook whispered, but it still sounded better than before. “As long as you don’t kick me out...”
“Never,” Yoongi said, and when he felt that Jungkook was stable again he let go, wiping a few strands of hair away, and a few stray tears. “Alright, go and tell the others, I’ll call hyung and we can tell everyone. Okay?”
Jungkook nodded and got up from the bed and Yoongi... well, he hadn’t expected it. Not at all. And now he wasn’t sure if he hadn’t missed the clues with anyone else. They hadn’t tried to talk to him, which made him a little confident since he seemed to be a good indicator for supernatural activities, but maybe they also held back because they were afraid of being shunned.
This... was going to be exciting.
He had warned Namjoon in advance and it was probably better if he took over the talking anyway. He took it in stride that their little baby was not quite what they had expected, and of course he did a great job coming clean to the other four. Until it was time... for the big revelations. If there were any to follow.
“A vampire? So the sun’s not a thing then?” Seokjin asked, eyeing him curiously. “You’re not even pale.”
Namjoon smiled politely, even though Yoongi knew that he probably tried his best not to roll his eyes. But this was important, and it was different from a stranger asking stupid questions, so.
“I was born like a normal person, I can walk around like a normal person, but I need to drink blood or I die. And I can also get really old.”
“Huh.” Seokjin leaned back, but he didn’t seem put off, only intrigued.
“And you knew, hyung?” Hoseok asked, and Yoongi bit his lip but nodded.
“Would be hard to hide since we are, you know.” Boyfriends. They had come clean with that immediately, but it would’ve been hard to hide in their old dorm anyway. “He told me when it was only the two of us, back then,” Yoongi added, because it felt nice to know that he was special. And now he could brag a little.
“And you just told us life exists on other planets, hm?” Taehyung smiled, rubbing over Jungkook’s head who seemed very pleased now that no one had tried to kick him out of the dorm with a broom.
“Yeah. But we like your music a lot. My mum is a big fan of Exo.”
“Oh my god, this is hilarious,” Jimin said with a light giggle. “Who knew pop music would be our way to the stars.”
“Well, I mean no one really wants humans to go to space yet. BUT it’s really popular, yeah. I’m... I’m not the only one who wanted to, uhm, join a band.”
Yoongi could literally see the questions burning in everyone’s brains, but there was still time to grill Jungkook about other aliens in the idol industry. Now, Yoongi needed to make sure if there was anyone else with a secret identity and then they could go back to their daily lives.
“Okay, before you all bombard them with questions, let’s just finish this up. Does anyone else have anything to share? You obviously don’t have to be afraid, so let’s just be honest, right?” Yoongi looked at them and they all stared back with wide eyes, until... Jimin coughed, and straightened up in his seat. Well, maybe it wasn’t too surprising. Yoongi kinda wanted to meet another demon anyway.
“I might have been not quite as human as I said either,” he started, fiddling with his hands. “I’m actually a... but don’t laugh!” He was pointing an accusing finger at Yoongi, which was completely uncalled for.
“It’s okay, I already met a demon.”
“A what? I’m not... oh fuck you, hyung,” Jimin spluttered, and Yoongi couldn’t help the wide smile that appeared on his face. He was just too easy to tease. “No, I’m a wood gnome!”
“A gnome? Really?” Hoseok looked his roommate up and down, and it took a lot of effort and a very dirty stare from Jimin to keep an obvious comment to himself. “So you can do magic?” Hoseok choked out instead.
”A little. I can make plants grow nicely, and shapeshift, obviously, but that’s it more or less.”
“I thought you were a Siren,” Taehyung said, and Jimin immediately cuddled into his side.
“You’re not human either, then?” Jimin said into Taehyung’s shirt, and Taehyung shook his head. He was definitely not an alien, though, it would’ve been too obvious. God, no one was going to be a demon.
“Nope.” He popped the p, rubbing over Jimin’s back until he looked up. “I might be a minor... god.”
“I’ve met one! What are you the god of?” Yoongi asked, happy that he was in familiar territory again.
“You did? How do you...?” Taehyung shook his head, because they really could do the questions later. “You know, if there’s enough need a new god just... appears. And I appeared because, well, so I’m the god of not forgetting to answer your texts.”
The silence was deafening. Even Jimin stared at him with a steadily deepening frown. “What the fuck?” he finally whispered, which caused Taehyung to shrug.
“I said I’m a minor god, right? There’s no job opening for the big stuff, I mean I know the one for hope and the one for wisdom, they are pretty nice actually but it’s more fun to hang out with humans. I don’t exist for that long yet anyway.” He shrugged again, and finally, Jungkook blurted out: “So why do I always forget to answer them then?”
“Do you pray to me? Huh? I don’t think so!”
Namjoon smiled, very obviously relieved that they were all still the same. “That sounds like from a novel, I can’t believe it’s true.”
“Hyung, where do you think did the author’s get all those ideas? I mean, not from meeting me, specifically, I guess, but they probably prayed to the minor god of absurd story ideas or something.” He rubbed his chin, staring at the ceiling intently and it was so beautifully Taehyung that Jimin fell into his lap with a loud laugh.
“I don’t understand how you’re not the alien, Taetae.”
“Way too predictable,” he huffed, and looked over to the remaining two members. “Hyungs, what about you? I don’t believe that you don’t have any secrets.”
Hoseok shuffled around in his seat. “Shouldn’t you, I don’t know, know that already? Being a god and all?”
“Nah, I’m just minor. Gotta spill it yourself.”
He shuffled again, and finally straightened up with a serious face. If he wasn’t a demon, Yoongi was going to be really sad.
“I’m a human. I was born and raised a regular person, BUT!” He lifted his finger and they all stared at it with wide eyes, followed by a loud gasp when said finger started to glow.
“You are E.T. hyung!” Jimin said, and Seokjin burst out in giggles next to him.
“I’m not... I’m not fucking E.T.! I said I’m a human! Listen, when I was younger I was, uhm, hit by a meteor. Right on the head, it gave me a really bad concussion and I mean what are the odds, right? It was kinda radioactive, and I don’t really know what happened because my parents and I decided that it was probably better not to get actual scientists involved. But since then, I can make my body hot. Seriously hot, if I try, but I usually don’t. It burns off my clothes.”
“Are you radioactive? Kinda like spiderman...” Seokjin mused, but Hoseok scowled at the comparison.
“There were no spiders involved, thankfully. And no, I’m not. We tested that, I didn’t want to hurt anyone. I’m just... hot.”
“We all know that,” Jimin said with a teasing smile which made them all groan, but after everything else... a superhero wasn’t all that unbelievable.
“Alright, hyung, what about you?” Namjoon asked Seokjin, who didn’t bother to sit up from where he was slouched on the couch, an amused smile on his face.
“I’m a penguin.”
Jungkook’s frown got so deep that Yoongi wondered if he was about to shift again, but before he could say anything Namjoon said: “Can you take this seriously, please?”
“No, I’m a penguin. I’m an actual, magical penguin. I lived in Antarctica and met some scientists there. They were drilling the ice and when they stopped doing that they were watching movies and I thought that was fun. I could pretend to be a human and no one would notice! Didn’t quite go as planned, so now I’m here! Though it feels a little like a movie, with all of you.” He smiled, folding his hands over his stomach and waited for the meltdown.
“What’s with the alpacas then? If you’re a penguin.” Hoseok stared at him disbelievingly.
“They are cute. Have you looked at them? I don’t need to be an alpaca to like them! That’s...” He stopped, thought really hard before he said: “Racist. Somehow. Hob-ah, don’t discriminate me. Besides, Yoongichi hasn’t come clean yet, let’s hear what he is. I’m sure it’s going to be something fun.” He smiled again, a mischievous glint in his eyes, but he was going to be utterly disappointed.
“Just a human, hyung. I’m really... just a human. No special powers, no accidents, nothing. Ask Namjoon, he should know. I wouldn’t have hidden it from him.”
Namjoon nodded, but there was doubt on his face.
Sighing, Yoongi rubbed a hand through his hair. “Listen, I promise you I’m not lying. Why would I? Supernatural beings, or... I don’t know, superheroes and aliens have always been attracted to me. Two of you literally came to me because you thought I’m one of your own! If anything, that’s my power. Everyone thinks I belong to them, but I’m just the most boring one out of all of us.”
“That’s not true, hyung,” Jimin said, trying to console him, but Yoongi really didn’t mind. It was fine. He loved who he was, and he loved who he could be with, he didn’t need anything else.
“You make brilliant music,” Namjoon said, and pulled him into a hug. It was... sweet. Especially when he leaned in and kissed him softly on the cheek.
“Does anyone even look like we do right now?” Jungkook asked softly, his eyes wandering rapidly through the room. “I mean, I don’t. And shouldn’t we... show each other that? I can keep you all apart by now, but humans look all so similar, and I think I want you to know how I look like. Because... that’s me.”
Seokjin reached over and pulled Jungkook into a hug, which ended in a lot of whining and a few dumb insults, but they all agreed. It would be kind of cathartic, to just let go and show their true form, and if it was only for this one moment. And the sight... was magnificent.
Yoongi let his eyes wander, over his boyfriend who really didn’t look any different, just this aura of otherness, something about his eyes that seemed slightly off. He had already seen Jungkook and... he could get used to it. It was a bit scary, yes, but now that he knew he wasn’t going to get eaten, he was almost cute. Like a horror bunny, which was so Jungkook that it was only endearing. Seokjin... was an actual penguin. Yoongi wasn’t well versed enough in biology to see differences to regular penguins, but his beak looked dangerously sharp and he was pretty big. But also cute. Just... like his hyung.
Jimin still had his pretty face, even though he was tiny and barky. Lots of bark, and there was moss growing all over it, and he giggled when he tried to slip under Seokjin’s wings. Yoongi couldn’t look at Taehyung properly, since he shifted strongly like a TV with bad reception, and it made Yoongi’s head hurt. A little bit uncomprehensible, a little bit weird but it was still their tiny weirdo. And Hoseok was glowing red white and definitely just burned off his clothes and singed their carpet and floor underneath, but he was smiling brightly and if there was one person who should be able to burn through a building it was definitely Hoseok.
They all turned back after a few moments, and that was it. The last hurdle taken, the last barriers broken down. It didn’t seem all that important, not when they thought about all the work they had to do, dance practice the next day, finishing up their new album, the MV shoots that were scheduled soon... just another thing on their list, before they got back to their usual insanity.
And it made Yoongi feel horribly warm in his chest.
They went to bed in their own rooms, later in the evening, after screaming all over each other with every dumb question they could think off. Yoongi felt exhausted to his bones, but also so happy. It didn’t take long though for Jungkook to pop his head in, and Seokjin let him crawl into his bed without a comment. Taehyung was next, nudging Yoongi for the other spot, and just when he got cozy and drowsy, Taehyung sat up and said: “This won’t do. It’s a special occasion!”
He snapped his fingers and Jimin’s and Hoseok’s beds appeared in the room with a pop, the inhabitants looking around with shocked faces. Taehyung snipped again, and Namjoon stood in the room as well, not quite as shocked but definitely annoyed.
“Hyung, let’s have a sleepover!” He snipped again, and all beds melted into a gigantic one and Namjoon crawled over to the spot next to Yoongi with a loud sigh.
“You better put that back as it was tomorrow.”
“And don’t think we’ll do this all the time from now on, I can’t go back to sharing one room with you guys,” Hoseok muttered but had no trouble pulling Jimin against his chest.
“For today,” Taehyung whispered. “It’s special.”
They didn’t protest, and it didn’t take long for all of them to fall asleep.
Yoongi woke up a while later, with a twinge in his bladder and absolutely overheated. Whoever thought vampires were cold hadn’t met Namjoon yet... He carefully disentangled himself from Taehyung and didn’t bother to open his eyes in the bathroom, but almost ran into Taehyung when he opened the door to walk back to the bedroom.
“Taehyung-ah, I almost had a heart attack, seriously... here, I’m done.”
But Taehyung didn’t move out of the way, he only looked at Yoongi with a thoughtful gaze.
“There’s something about you hyung... can I try something? I promise it won’t hurt.”
Yoongi felt a cold shiver run over his spine. He did trust Taehyung of course, but he still felt uncomfortable, not even knowing what he wanted to do.
“Just a little test,” Taehyung said, and before Yoongi could protest Taehyung pressed a finger against Yoongi’s forehead and...
Ah. The tiny god had found his secret.
Yoongi shook his head, trying to get rid of the slight dizziness, when he noticed the look of utter horror on Taehyung’s face.
“You found me,” Yoongi teased, but when this didn’t help he said: “Come on now, don’t be scared. I promise you I didn’t know, I made sure I didn’t know. But I also didn’t think one of your kind would try to lift the barrier. Guess I’ll have to put in another safety now.”
“Why are you here?” Taehyung asked, shivering all over. “Are we all going to die?”
“Of course not,” Yoongi dismissed with a wave of his hand. “The same reason as you. It’s just more fun with the humans, hm? Listen... when I created the universe, I, uhm.” It was a bit hard to describe an all-knowing, eternal being, but Taehyung was probably the closest one to that. Still a bit young, but he would get it. Probably. “So I had fun in the beginning, you know? Thinking of what to put in, I was really proud of myself when I invented matter and the rules how it should react and then I invented you. Sentient beings. Not controlled by me, just letting entropy do its thing and I enjoyed watching you all evolve and grow and become so magnificent. But I’m just me, and I thought it would be a treat, to experience it for myself. Not all-knowing, just another sentient live form on one of the beautiful planets that grew all by themselves.”
“I don’t get it,” Taehyung said, but he seemed a little more composed. “But you didn’t know. You forgot!”
“I didn’t forget, you cute tiny god, I made myself into a human. What’s the point of living here when I can’t be like everyone else? It was supposed to wear off after a human lifetime, but you pesky thing had to probe. It’s fine though, I put it back in and I just make sure you don’t think of it again.”
“You’ll make me forget? You can do that?”
“I created the universe, deleting some memory isn’t all that hard considering that. Even for another god. I mean... it’s just for text messages.”
Taehyung scowled, but he also realized he was being teased.
“And besides, you’ll remember when the lifetime is up. It’s so short...” Yoongi shrugged.
“This is absolutely insane. I never thought... that there was something above me. That made me. I thought I just happened to exist because there was a need for it.” He was a bit pale around the nose, and it was cute in a way. Not very godly.
“I don’t know, I thought it was obvious that everything had to come from something. I’m not like, what religions make of me, I let most things just run its own course, but I still started it.” He shrugged. “I could invent reincarnation, though, when the others die. I think I will miss them when they go.” He thought about Namjoon, about his soft smile and his big heart and all his dorky and brilliant self and yes. Even now, when it was hard to feel anything for just one of the billions and trillions and unimaginable number of beings alive at this very moment, he... felt. For this one little being. He shook his head, and he noticed that Taehyung had recognized it.
“Don’t say a word,” Yoongi huffed, and Taehyung was definitely still too overwhelmed to not listen to him.
“But hyung... did you never consider that this means that someone had to make you?”
Huh.
“I...” He stopped for a moment, letting an infinite amount of space, time, matter and energy run over him, all of the universe he had created.
“I mean, the humans think there’s more than one universe. I don’t know. You said you created one.”
Well.
“Okay, maybe we leave the hard questions for when we go back to being gods fulltime, okay? Let’s just go to bed and forget about it. We have dance practice tomorrow.”
Taehyung smiled, and his fear and awe was replaced by a deep, deep understanding. “Sure hyung. I’m looking forward to seeing you again. I hope we will have the best time.”
“Oh, I am absolutely certain!” Yoongi snipped and...
When he woke up, he was completely overheated. It was such a farce that vampires were supposed to be cold, Namjoon hadn’t gotten that memo yet. He sighed, trying to get out from under Taehyung’s death grip, but gave up after a moment. Hoseok would make sure they wouldn’t be late, so he snuggled back into his pillow, kissed Namjoon who only grunted in his sleep, and wondered which one of their managers was a demon.
Someone had to be.
