Chapter Text
David is walking home from school, his mind is wandering to classwork, his sister, his mom, Exer.. David often thinks of Exer. He's the closest friend David has ever had.. so why does David want to change that so badly?
The blonde huffs, the idea of Exer being more than friends always fills his mind. It's so annoying! As David makes his way home, he pulls out his navy blue Walkman; his favorite cassette is already ready to be played. He puts in his earbuds and clicks play.
The guitar strings sing in David's ears as the opening to Love Song by Tesla plays.
Exer gave David this tape. It was a gift one summer. The summer before senior year, before they met Jackson, before all the drama. When Exer and David hung out every day.. Now, it feels like David never sees him.
As David walks, his movement sways to the music. His mind racing with thoughts of Exer. David hums as he walks down the weedy sidewalk.
Suddenly, he hears the song but louder, David turns to see a red car pulling up next to him. David knew who it was without even looking at his face, Exer. David's face lights up as he takes out the earbuds, "I'm listening to the same song," he smiles.
"Without me? Dude, this is our song!" Exer laughs and turns up the song, "Love will find a way!" He sings loudly.
David laughs and hops into the passenger's seat, Exer pulls the car from the park and continues singing as they drive downtown.
David watches Exer with loving eyes, his gaze never leaving the other. Exer's brown hair blowing in the wind, his lips curling into a smile.. David studied it all.
"You like what you see." Exer winks.
"Ah! Sorry," David blushes with embarrassment.
Exer laughs, "What? Why are you staring at me more than normal?" He turns down the music.
"Oh, sorry.." David looks out the window, trying to hide.
"Oh, come on Day! Tell me what's happening. "
"It's nothing.."
"Day, I can tell you're lying."
David goes silent. The music fades to radio static as they drive out of town. The brown haired one sighs and shuts off the radio.
"I need to show you something." Exer takes a heavy turn into the town's park.
"Wait, what?" David jumps and turns to Exer.
"Hold on tight!" Exer smirks and takes a sharp left onto some dirt road.
As they race down the dirt road, David is practically holding onto Exer for dear life.
"EXER THE HELL!!" David screeches, his arms wrapped around Exer's waist.
Suddenly, they make a quick stop. David holds his eyes shut, too scared to open them.
"Day, you're okay." Exer chuckles, "Come on, I gotta show you this!" He quickly gets out of the car.
David slowly opens his eyes to see a small deer trail and big trees all around them. He slowly gets out of the car and follows Exer down the deer trail.
As they walk down the trail, David stays close behind Exer. They walk past big mossy rocks and a birdhouse before coming up to a big open patch. Where David sees a small pond, his eyes widen.
The beautiful pond has water lilies planted on its sides, with the sun setting on its reflection. A log sits in front of the pond, its mossy sides having mushroom babies growing. Exer turns to David and grabs his hand, guiding him to sit on the log.
David and Exer sit on the log, the blonde turns to the other and questions, "What is this place?"
Exer smiles at the question, "I come here to think, no one else knows of this place.. well, except you." He looks up to David, his hands holding the others.
David's heart skips a beat.
"I thought this would help you.. you seem to have a lot on your mind." Exer asks, shyly looking to the ground.
David sighs, feeling bad to make him worry. "I'm just.. thinking a lot." He looks up to the pond.
"Thank you. I feel better already because of this place." Because you're here.
Exer smiles and nods. They sit silently for a while.
Then David feels a head on his shoulder. His cheeks heat up, his hands start to sweat.
Exer is so close now.. he's right here, right next to David. His hand in his. David quickly stands up, his heart beating fast.
Exer stays seated, confused. "Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable.."
David stands there, his heart beating fast. His hands were shaking.
"Exer, I need to tell you something." The blonde quickly turns to face Exer.
Exer tilts his head, questioning.
"I.." David's eyes trail down from Exer's hazel eyes to his hazelnut lips. His cheeks grow red.
"I'm happy to be here.." he stumbles out, his original thought running away at the last second.
Exer's worried gaze oftens, "I'm happy to hear that, dude," he smiles awkwardly.
They sit in silence looking at each other, "David, I actually have something to tell you too." Exer stands up and walks over, taking David's hands.
Exer pulls David close, his lips hovering right over the other's ear.
"I'm happy you're here with me."
David feels a shiver down his spin. He bites his lip and looks away, cheeks red. Exer smirks mischievously. He's teasing David.
The Exer softly pulls David's face to his, their breath being shared. They're so close..
Close enough to kiss.
And they did.
As their lips connect, David feels himself melt into the other. His cheeks cool, his hands stop shaking, his intensity settles. Peace. David was at peace while kissing Exer.
Their lips crave each other, their hands gripping the others face and hips. Exer softly sucks on David's lower lip, while David bites the hazel eyed bottom lip.
Their legs lose their strength as they slowly make it to the soft grass. Exer was the first to tug on the other's shirt, David stood up on his hips and let him take off his white band-T. The blonde's pale skin is taken away from the warmth, but the warmth quickly returns when David feels Exer's soft kisses on his chest.
David's breath hitches, his cheeks turn red again. His lips are so close, his hands hold David hold onto Exer's soft hips. Exer slowly makes his way up to David's neck, planting soft kisses all the way up.Exer stops at his neck and looks up into David's blue eyes. He smiles softly.
"I love you."
David jumps, staring down into Exer's hazel eyes. Love. Exer loves him. His mind races, thoughts, and memories of that summer fills his mind. In this late July summer, Exer told David he loved the other. David smiles brightly, "Is this a dream?"
"It is." Exer kisses the other once more before David fades back into the dark.
David feels a soft shake on his shoulder, his eyes open and adjust to the night sky. Exer and David sit on that wet log under the stars, their lips did not touch, nor did Exer say those 3 words to David.
"Hey we dozed off, your dad's gonna kill you if you aren't home soon" Exer frowns.
David sighs, and slowly nods. "Yeah, let's go home." It was a dream, a stupid dream.
As they stand up and make their way to the trail again, the faint click is heard. David's Walkman lays in the soft grass near the log, and the soft tune of Love Song sings out to the empty woods.
