Anakin Skywalker and the most awkward day of his life

Summary:

Anakin's (not so) secret relationship with Rex gets found out by Cody. And Cody's (very much) secret relationship with Obi-Wan gets exposed in the process

Notes:

this idea came to me during a chat with my lovely friend hunter (shout out to you king)
this is just generally silly and is not to be taken seriously

Work Text:

Anakin was a simple man, with simple needs. And those simple needs included being pinned down on his boyfriends bed as they made out. It was cliché, it was corny, and it was perfect. He had climbed through Rex’s window a few hours prior, as he had gotten bored waiting around his house while Obi-Wan fretted around to make sure the house was perfect. He’d finally invited his mystery partner over for dinner so he could introduce him to Anakin and Ahsoka. The constant flittering about and muttering from Obi-Wan had started to make Anakin incredibly anxious for no reason, so he decided to dip and hangout with his boyfriend. And by hangout he meant make out.

Anakin loved this feeling. He loved to feel Rex’s lips on his own, he loved to feel Rex’s hands find their place over his waist, and he loved the light pressure of having another body on top of his own.

He hummed into Rex’s mouth as the kiss deepened. The only sounds in the room being the wet smack of their lips and their own breathing. Rex’s hands begun dipping lower, and lower and lower before-

Rex’s bedroom door opened. Oh shit. They hadn’t told Rex’s brothers they’d started dating yet. The two froze as they locked eyes with Cody. Rex’s eldest brother. The brother that Anakin was, if he were being honest, quite scared of.

Cody stood frozen in the doorway, his hand still on the doorhandle. His face gave away no indication of his emotions, as usual. Rex and Anakin however, where all sorts of dishevelled, and were still sort of breathless. The tension in the room was palpable, it felt like the moments before a western shoot out. The moments waiting for your opponent to make the first move. Time seemed to stand still for those few moments.

Without a word, or even a shift in facial expression, Cody turned around and walked out, shutting the door as if he were never there. Time resumed and Rex loudly sighed. He placed his head on Anakin’s chest to hide himself away.

“Oh my god that was so awkward” He groaned, slightly muffled by Anakin’s shirt. Anakin only laughed and pet Rex’s head placatingly.

“At least we don’t have to actually tell him about us?” Anakin offered.

“Yeah but I’m gonna get an even more awkward conversation from him about safe sex” Anakin winced.

“Yeah- good luck with that, buddy” The only response Anakin was another groan. He reached over to the bedside table to grab his phone and checked the time. “Well, I should probably get going..” Anakin sighed. “Obi-Wan would have my head if I wasn’t home to meet his ‘mysterious paramour’” Rex lifted his head to look up at Anakin.

“Do you need me to drive you home?” He asked.

“Nah- I parked down the street.” Rex winced at the mention of Anakin driving “I know not to park in your driveway” He laughed. The last time Anakin parked his car in the Fett’s driveway, he’d broken an unwritten rule and parked in Cody’s spot, and then as he backed out, he was a single inch away from hitting Fox’s car. “Hey don’t give me that look!” Anakin chided. “I can drive just fine, thank you!”

“Babe, you drive like you’re trying to out-run a horde of zombies in the apocalypse.” Rex then got up off Anakin as the man scoffed. “Besides, you love it when I drive you around places” and, Anakin wasn’t going to deny that. He loved when Rex did things for him. It made him feel special and loved.

Anakin dramatically sighed as he got up off Rex’s bed and leaned down to slip on his shoes. Once ready, he approached Rex’s window.

“You know, you can leave out the front door.” Rex said as Anakin fitted himself through. Once he landed on the soft grass, he shot Rex a smile.

“Don’t wanna.” Anakin then leaned in to capture Rex in a final kiss. Short and sweet, and perfect. “I’ll call you later, yeah?”

“Yeah.” Rex smiled as Anakin stepped away from the window. “Good luck with dinner” Instead of answering, he blew Rex an over exaggerated kiss as he skipped off, calling out a ‘Bye Rex!’ as he left the threshold of Rex’s house.

Anakin shoved open the front door and immediately collapsed onto the couch. Ignoring the fact that Ahsoka was already on the couch.

“Hey!- Watch it, Skyguy” she called out as she held her drink out to stop it from spilling.

“’hey watch it Skyguy’” Anakin mimicked in a high pitched tone, ignoring Ashoka when she shoved his legs away from her.

“Leave eachother alone, please” Obi-Wan called out from the kitchen. “I need you both to at least be cordial with eachother tonight” He walked into the loungeroom to begin cleaning, but there was nothing to clean, as he’d already cleaned it twice. He just sort of… dusted everything with a cloth. “It isn’t every night someone new comes to our house, and I’d hate to give him the wrong impression-“ Obi-Wan was interrupted by the doorbell. He immediately perked up and excitedly walked over to the front door.

Anakin heard Obi-Wan and the mysterious man in the door exchange pleasantries.

“Oh it’s so lovely to see you, dear.” Obi-Wan said. “I’m so glad you said yes to this.”

“Of course, Obi-Wan.” The voice said. “Thank you for having me” It took Anakin a moment or two to realise that the voice was familiar. He popped his head over the back of the couch to see-

“Oh shit” he said. It was Cody. Rex’s brother Cody. “No fucking way” Anakin didn’t think he’s ever seen Cody with this much emotion on his face. It was even more terrifying than when he didn’t show any emotion at all.

“What? Who is it?” Ahsoka asked from beside him. Anakin tore his eyes away from Cody and Obi-Wan to look at his sister.

“That’s Rex’s older brother.” Ahsoka let out a similar ‘oh shit’ as they observed the two in the doorway. Anakin was contemplating jumping out the window, but before he could get the chance to escape, Obi-Wan and Cody turned towards the two on the couch.

“Cody, dear,” Obi-Wan began “This is Anakin and Ahsoka” Obi-Wan began to signal them to come over. Ahsoka, being Ahsoka, happily bounded over to introduce herself but Anakin very slowly made his way over, never taking his eyes off Cody as if he were a wild animal. Cody had been staring at Anakin since he was noticed, and Anakin had no idea what the look meant. Was he mad? Amused? Annoyed? He was completely unpredictable in this moment.

“Anakin.” Cody stated, holding his hand out. Oh god now Anakin was scared.

“Cody” Anakin replied, trying to make himself sound indifferent. He took the extended hand and nearly gasped at Cody’s iron grip. The two kept eye contact as they shook hands, and thankfully for Anakin, it was over as quickly as it began, and Cody released him.

“I’m sorry-“ Obi-Wan interjected. “Do you two know eachother?” Oh shit. Anakin panicked internally as he tried to think of what to say.

“He’s a friend of my brothers” Cody said, his voice indifferent as always. Thank God. Anakin was saved for the moment.

“Oh, Isn’t that lovely!” Obi-Wan grinned. “Well, dinner is almost ready. Anakin, why don’t you go set the table while I finish up?” Anakin practically jumped at the chance to escape for the moment, and he rushed into the dining room.

In a cruel twist of fate, Cody had decided to follow him in.

“You and Rex, huh?” He asked suddenly, causing Anakin to jump.

“Uh-yeah-uh-“ Anakin stammered awkwardly. Cody’s gaze was intense. “We uh-“

“Alright listen,” Cody began as he folded his arms. “I’m assuming Obi-Wan doesn’t know about it yet” His observation was correct; it had been about a month and Anakin had neglected to tell Obi-Wan. It wasn’t because he didn’t trust Obi-Wan. He just kept forgetting to mention it. “So, I won’t say anything about it to him. But I never want to have to see that shit again.” There was a slight grimace on Cody’s face and Anakin sighed in relief.

“Oh- Thank you. Cody. I’m so sorry about that” Anakin truly was sorry. It was embarrassing for all associated parties.

“And I think it goes without saying that if you break my brother’s heart I will break you” Yep, yep, done. Anakin was very intimidated by Cody, and definitely would never do anything to get on the man’s bad side.

“Of course, I wouldn’t dream of it.” Anakin practically squeaked out. He felt like he had died and gone to limbo because whatever was happening in the moment did not feel real.

“Good, good.” He trailed off. “And it goes both ways, too. If Rex is ever being a dickhead, you come and tell me, alright? I don’t stand for that shit.” Oh. Anakin wasn’t expecting that. Rex always told him that Cody was an extremely caring man, that he was really just a sap and that he loved his family more than life itself. Anakin never really believed it. but now?

“Yeah- Alright.” Anakin smiled. Maybe things would be okay.

Obi-Wan soon came in with dinner and the four then spent the next hour or so just talking. If Anakin were being honest, He’s never seen Obi-Wan this happy, and he’s never seen Cody with a smile. He was so happy and proud that Obi-Wan finally found someone that made him feel loved.

As dinner was winding down, Anakin excused himself to his bedroom. While Anakin had come to really respect Cody over the past hour and a half, he wasn’t above gossip. He quickly pulled out his phone to text Rex.

Rex <3 (7:37pm)

Anakin: REX GUESS WHAT

Anakin: REX

Rex: What?

Anakin: OBI’S MYSTERIOUS PARTNER

Anakin: YOU’LL NEVER GUESS WHO IT IS

Rex: Who????

Anakin: ITS CODY ITS CODY

Anakin: CODY IS DATING OBI-WAN

Rex: No fucking way

Anakin: YES WAY! LOOK!

Anakin then sent Rex a photo he had secretly taken before he left for his room. Obi-Wan and Cody were still seated at the dining table. Obi-wan had a wine glass in his left hand and had Cody’s hand placed over his right hand. They were laughing at something, both with huge smiles on their faces.

Rex: No fucking way

Anakin: Bro I nearly fucking died when he walked in it was so awkward

Anakin: he shook my hand and nearly crushed it

Anakin: and then he cornered me in the dining room to give me the shovel talk

Rex: oh my fucking god Cody

Rex: I can’t believe him rn

Rex: he is so gonna pay for that

As Cody entered his house, something felt… off. It was quiet. That wasn’t normal. He cautiously stepped into the loungeroom and saw his brothers all huddled around Fox, who was holding his phone out so they could all see. Uh oh, this was never good. The one brother he didn’t see in the huddle however was Rex. He was seated on the other side of the loungeroom, looking at Cody.

“Hey Cody,” Rex greeted, causing all his brothers to turn to stare at him. “How was your dinner with Obi-Wan?”

“It was good- wait.” What the fuck? How does Rex know his name- oh. “Fucking Skywalker” he muttered, it went unheard however, as he was proverbially thrown to the wolves.

“Cody, he looks like a Victorian English teacher” Wolffe said.

“I thought you had better taste than this, Cody.” Like Fox was one to talk.

“When do we get to meet him?” Boba asked excitedly.

And with that, Cody’s very carefully put together, cemented and wired wall he had built between his home life and his dating life crumbled before his eyes. Well, more like demolished with a wrecking ball. And It was all thanks to Anakin Skywalker. God fucking damn it, Anakin Skywalker.
