Looking for a roommate. Small flat, kitchen/living room, bathroom, two bedrooms. For more info email [email protected]

Subject: Roommate application
Hi,
I saw your posting on the bulletin board. My name is Remus Lupin and I’m looking for a room in London. How much would the rent be? And when could I move in?
Kind regards,
Remus Lupin

Hi Remus,
my roommate is moving out at the end of September, so you could move in on October 1st. You’d be taking over her old contract from the landlord. I believe her share of the rent was about £500.

Subject: Deadline Extension
Remus,
this is the last extension I can give you. We need the first draft of your new novel at the end of November, at the very latest. If you find yourself unable to meet the new deadline, we won’t be able to release the book next year and we might have to look into reviewing your book deal.
Best wishes,

Book: Invisible Heroes by R.J. Lupin
My Rating: 2/5
Summary: Three heroes protect a futuristic city from all evil. They’re best friends, the city loves them, everything is perfect. Except for the villains that cause trouble left and right. When suddenly, due to an unfortunate series of events, the city is convinced that the heroes are actually the bad ones, they must join forces with the villains to correct their reputations. Easy, except that the heroes and villains have a feud that goes back a long way …
Opinion: sorry to everyone who liked this book, but I’m really disappointed. I was excited about the plot, because the premise sounds genuinely interesting, but four chapters in I realized that it wasn’t well executed. The chapters were too long and the author couldn’t keep the tension up for more than a page. I found the main characters unrelatable and overly dramatic. let’s hope Lupin doesn’t decide to write another book anytime soon.

“if i was orpheus i would simply not turn around” yes you would. if you were orpheus and you loved eurydice, you would. to love someone is to turn around. to love someone is to look at them. whichever version of the myth — he hears her stumble, he can’t hear her at all, he thinks he’s been tricked — he turns around because he loves her. that’s why it’s a tragedy. because he loves her enough to save her. because he loves her so much he can’t save her. because he will always, always turn around. “if i was orpheus i would simply —” you wouldn’t be orpheus. you wouldn’t be brave enough to walk into the underworld and save the person you love. be serious

Invisible Heroes by R.J. Lupin, page 289:
“Someone has to stop him,” Lucas said.
He looked at Daisy, and recognized the look on her face. She was struggling to keep her composure, to not burst into tears, more for Lucas’ sake than her own. She was clutching Ivy’s arm for support and leaning against her, pressing her free hand against her ribcage where she’d taken a hit earlier. Without Ivy, she might not be able to stand upright.
“That someone doesn’t have to be you,” Daisy argued, desperatation in her voice.
Lucas’ sad smile spoke volumes.
“Yes, it does. He’s my father. I’m the only one he might listen to.”
It was true.
All the years of being in the spotlight, of doing as he said, of pretending to be in love with Daisy for the sake of good publicity. Lucas had kept his head down and followed his father’s orders out of love.
Perhaps, the feeling hadn’t been entirely one-sided.
Perhaps, Lucas could not only stop, him but also save him.
“I have to go.”
Emery stepped forward, into Lucas’ personal space, and Lucas knew that they, too, were holding back tears. Emery inhaled shakily and lifted their chin to meet Lucas’ gaze. He returned it with the same love in his eyes.
If only they’d had more time.
Three days hadn’t been nearly enough, a lifetime would barely suffice.
Emery reached up to a strap of Lucas’ parachute that had come loose and fastened it anew. Their lower lip was trembling.
“Don’t you die out there,” they managed. “Be careful.”
Lucas nodded, and it took everything in him to not bury his face in the crook of their neck and stay there until none of this mattered anymore.
He looked over Emery’s head at the rest of the team, and he let his gaze linger for a moment.
Thistle, who had welcomed them into her home and protected them, and trusted them despite all existing evidence pointing her away from them.
Rio, who was brave because he dared to be himself, regardless of what the world thought about him.
Ivy, who had tried and failed too many times, and who still got up every time she was knocked down.
Daisy, who was fierce and honest and fighting for better days, and just beginning to understand the truth she’d spent her life denying.
And finally, Emery.
Emery, brilliant, fearless, unbelievable Emery, who had been by his side all along. His only regret was that it had taken him too long to see it.
Above them, two airplanes split the sky, and Lucas knew he was running out of time.
He looked at Emery for the last time, as if to savor the sight for later, then he turned around and broke into a run.
He leapt out of the building at the ninety-first storey.
Two seconds into the approximately 250-metre plunge, the parachute deployed.
He brought the holographic display on his wristwatch up and located a blinking dot. At the push of a button, the holographic projection died and Lucas steered the parachute north.
He had to stop his father, no matter the cost.

Ms. Sprout,
it is with utmost regret that I must inform you of an unfortunate incident that occured yesterday, November 15th, on the floor on which my flat is located. At about 1 am, a piercing scream was issued by one of the occupants of flat 303, which unfortunately shares a wall with my own flat. Due to this, I was interrupted in my attempt to get a night of peaceful sleep. The initiate scream was followed by a door being thrown open and banging against the wall, then a second scream. “Remus! How could you do this to Lucas?”
This kind of behaviour is unacceptable during the day, but even more so at night. I kindly ask you to have a word with the residents of flat 303 and advise to refrain from this kind of behaviour in the future.
Kind regards,

Ms. Sprout,
this is utterly unacceptable. For the second time within two weeks, the occupants of flat 303 have interrupted my sleep with unnecessary noise during the night. This time, rather than screaming, David Bowie was played at full volume, accompanied by off-key singing and, judging by the sound of jumps on the creaking floor, dancing.
I once again must urge you to take action against these tenants.
