Hangout

Summary:

Vörjeans have planned a hangout to write new songs. Määnin ends up witnessing an unguarded moment between the band’s two soulmates.

Notes:

Finally finished something I can upload! I’ve had a writersblock since the beginning of the year and I hate it. I wrote this in the hopes that I would get over it, hence it being on the shorter side, and I think it worked as I have started writing more again, to the point that a few weeks have gone by since I finished writing this. I’ve spent the time meant for editing on writing.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

When Määnin enters Tommy's apartment he's met by the sound of snoring. Nothing loud, but still there. After having put down the dinner he brought for everyone he follows the snoring into the living room. There he sees his friends on the couch fast asleep, Tommy holding Freppa as if he's protecting him from anything that could hurt him, not that Freppa seems to mind, looking like there is no other place he’d rather be. Carefully Määnin shakes Tommy awake.

“What…?” Tommy asks as he’s trying to grasp his surroundings.

“Dinner is ready, so hurry up and wake up your boyfriend. I'm hungry.” Määnin leaves after that, but not before stopping by the entrance to the room, watching as Tommy gently wakes up Freppa. The gentleness isn't something new, Tommy has always had a soft spot for Freppa no matter how much he denied it back when he didn't remember their bond, but it has changed. Määnin hasn't figured out in what way yet, but he does know that it's a good change. He leaves for the kitchen before they notice him, a small smile on his lips.

After dinner they relocate to the living room, ready to write some new music. As Freppa is still tired he only participates for about an hour before Tommy tells him to lie down and rest on his lap, he and Määnin continuing with the writing. They’ve been writing for longer than usual when Tommy finally puts down the pen, Freppa fast asleep in his lap despite the noise they’ve been making.

“I think that's good for today.”

“Definitely. We've been at it for longer than usual, but that might be thanks to Freppa sleeping.” Määnin mentions, used to their tallest member being the one to put an end to their writing sessions.

“I think it was more thanks to that nap earlier, definitely kept me from being tired.”

“How did that play a part? We've been up for way longer before.” Määnin has to ask, not understanding what his friend is talking about.

“My dyslexia, it affects me more when I'm tired.” Tommy answers as if it’s oblivious.

“Your dyslexia affects you differently depending on how tired you are?”

“Ooh, sorry I forgot that it isn't normally the case. I guess you could say I trained my dyslexia to not affect me as much by reading a lot. It just doesn't work when I'm tired, so it hits me full force then.” He explains, surprising Määnin as he thought his friend's dyslexia just wasn’t so bad.

“Freppa is really good at picking up when I start to struggle, that's why he's always the one to intervene.”

“I thought they said that being soulmates didn't come with any type of abilities.”

“It might just be that we’ve been close for so long. I never stopped picking up those small signs from Freppa when I didn't remember that we're soulmates, I just didn't act on them as much.”

“You're staying the night, right?” Tommy asks as they stand up a few minutes later, Freppa clinging to Tommy’s side half asleep.

“I don't want to intrude.”

“On what? Freppa is definitely too tired for there to be anything to intrude on.” As if to prove the point Freppa snuggles into his boyfriend, almost causing both to fall over.

“Guess I'll take the couch then.”

Notes:

For this year I've made a kind of new years resolution to become more active in the KAJ fandom. I'm currently deciding if I should start by joining the discord server or by trying to befriend people on twitter. Either way it will probably be a bit awkward for me as I usually just stick to observing and am not that used to interacting with others. At least I have some time to figure it out, it's only February after all.
