“You’re a wild little thing,” she hears distantly from the table. It’s said simply, matter-of-factly, and without judgement but it still engenders a nasty spark of defensiveness from within Rey.
She scowls at him from behind the plate.
But then she sees that his plate is still nearly full and unthinkingly she stalks over to him, focused entirely on the food.
She sidles up next to him, so close she can feel the heat radiating from his body. He smells good, really good, but the food in front of him smells like surviving.
Rey reaches for a chunk of meat.
His hand dwarfs her wrist as he snatches it, stopping her in her tracks. His hold on her is gentle, but firm and she growls in frustration.
“Use your words, Rey,” He whispers into the shell of her ear.
Sweat beads on her forehead as her abdomen throbs with heat, and she swallows the saliva building in her mouth.
A small, distant part of her stings with humiliation, but Rey is far too hungry to be prideful.“Please,” she begs in a whine.

It’s not, like, a thing. Everyone likes to make it a thing, but it’s not.
Yes, llya Rozanov also has a snow leopard for a daemon. Yes, he and Rozanov are hockey rivals. Yes, let’s talk about what that means about their souls. Let’s gossip about that, if they’re the same, if they’re a matched pair, if their rivalry stems from being too different or too similar. Yeah, that’s great, let’s talk about that instead of their hockey. Even though they’re professional hockey players. And the only reason they’re being talked about at all is because of their fucking hockey.
Their daemons don’t even look alike, not really. Not if you’re looking closely. Ren’s way bigger than Rozanov’s daemon, broader in the shoulders with a squarer head. Her tail is a bit longer too, Shane thinks. And she’s fluffier, like, on the whole. Rozanov’s snow leopard is lean, lithe. Not starved, but she sort of looks like she’s spent her whole life hungry. Like she’s on the hunt, even if all she’s doing is watching a hockey game from up in the daemon suites of the rink, close enough that the bonds aren’t tugging at the players’ souls, but far enough away that they’re not really a distraction either.
It doesn’t mean anything, even if everyone likes to make it a thing.

Charles was fifteen when his dæmon settled.
It was a perfectly average age to settle, and it happened so quietly and naturally that neither he nor Moira even noticed at first. They had other things to think about: today, they were aiming to beat out Ben Barnicoat and Max Verstappen at Val d’Argenton.
It wasn’t until they were getting into the kart that they realised. Moira normally transformed into an insect to race, something small enough that she could crawl inside Charles’s race suit and be protected as he drove. Today, she didn’t even try to change; they both just looked at each other, and knew.
“A mouse,” he said.

Summary
Charlie's well aware she can come off as… abrasive, sometimes. Her enthusiasm isn't easy for most denizens of Hell to swallow. She’s worked to tone it down as the hotel’s grand reopening creeps closer, giving residents more space and swapping the flashy events for more casual gatherings. Charlie wants her new (and old!) friends to feel as comfortable as possible, after all!
But there’s one issue that’s not as easily solved. And unluckily, Charlie’s pretty sure it’s her most abrasive feature of all. But she’s not so sure this is a part of herself she can tone down. Or really wants to, for that matter.
