“What in the world do you think you're doing?” Edwin asks, hands on his hips in the way Crystal says makes him look like a ‘cunty British Karen.’
This startles the man into dropping the shard of glass onto the pavement with a clink. “Fuck! Can't a guy trash his fucking ex's car ‘n peace?”
Edwin, for some reason, is startled by the man's appearance. The first thing he sees are black-lined eyes the color of honey, the golden hue almost glowing in the streetlight. Edwin’s love of mysteries, unfortunately for him, is only rivaled by his love of pretty boys. And while his plan to confront the vulgar vandal was not exactly fool-proof from the start, Edwin realizes he has severely miscalculated how the rest of this interaction would go, because the vandal is fucking gorgeous.

Edwin is a grad student who is sick of his friends trying to help him get over his crush on Charles by setting him up on dates. Thomas is hellbent on destroying his cheating ex's car right outside Edwin's window. And Edwin is having none of it...until he learns that Thomas' ex is actually Simon, his first-boyfriend-turned-bully.
Edwin needs a fake boyfriend. Thomas needs an alibi. What could possibly go wrong?

Summary
Charles is bored.
It’s the all consuming boredom that makes his skin itch in a way that nothing can satiate it. He’s not able to focus on anything and god has he tried: the words of his book are swimming off of the page and escaping him as he tries to focus so he abandons that, the paperwork does the same thing, and even reorganising his back of tricks holds no joy so he leaves it half unpacked, trinkets and tools scattered across the floor.
He’s bored.Monty seems to not be having the same problem though, because this entire time he’s been sitting peacefully reading some book on astrology, curled up in the armchair next to Niko’s bed.
And unfortunately for him, Charles is going to change that.

Summary
Edwin and Charles go undercover to an Welsh manor house for a week-long couples retreat. They are there to investigate a black market magic auction. While they investigate, they are pretending to be a young married couple.
Edwin has accepted that Charles doesn't feel the same way about him. But pretending to be married stirs up feelings he thought he'd learned to live with.
And Charles? He's experiencing what it's like to be seen as a bisexual man for the first time. Maybe it suits him better than he thought it would?

Of all the descriptions the Cat King has given Edwin, a classic is not one of them. "I'm not quite sure what you mean."
"It's nothing bad to be, not in the slightest," the Cat King says, earnest. "You appreciate the way things are and the way they were, seeing the beauty in both sides. You probably got a bunch of first editions back home- Oscar Wilde, Allen Poe, all the best of the Lake Poets." He shifts forward on his knees to where Edwin sits, brings himself just an inch closer to the space between his legs. "Think Art Noveau, letters written by candlelight instead typed up in telegrams, dances in ballrooms instead of old clubs.”
The look in his eyes, the admiration, now Edwin sees where it’s familiar. The fascination, from that cursed first night- drawn out by Edwin doing nothing but being himself. “There’s just nothing like you anymore.”

In other words, the CatWin season two where the Cat King ditches an Endless-sentenced exile in PT to chase after a second chance, Edwin meets him again for the first time on his side of the sea, and what they find is more than any mere fascination. I miss my idiots way too much.

Crystal enters with another girl in tow, a tall slim frame, lots of long dark wavy hair, and— okay, Charles knows it's rude to ogle, her eyes are up there, he knows he shouldn't stare.
But this girl's wearing a thin jumper that looks to be at least a size too small— the hem barely meets the top of her skirt— and no bra, and the view is spectacular.
And that's just the finishing touch on an overall gorgeous body: long legs, narrow waist, shapely arms with a nice bit of definition to the biceps, long graceful neck and a pretty face, all dark lashes and full pink lips, with a cute little beauty mark dotting the chin.

"Edwin?" Charles gapes, and Edwin's hands clutch at the folds of his skirt.

Even Charles can appreciate the subtleties of the choreography: Fire is boisterous, with great, choppy gestures, Water is in a blue outfit and flows gracefully, Earth stays close to the ground, with sure, stompy movements. It's Air, though, that captivates Charles’s attention: the boy is tall and graceful and pale, and seems to float, his feet barely touching the ground, showcasing astonishing feats of skill and athleticism. He spins and jumps so high, it seems as if he has wings.

Monty had run away to London to escape his mother. Falling in love had never been part of the plan. Especially not twice, and especially not with a pair of husbands who seemed determined to make Monty their friend whether he liked it or not.
So what if Charles smiled like he radiated sunlight, or if Edwin was so smart it made his head spin. They were perfect together, and Monty Finch was a lot of things, but a homewrecker was not one of them. He would get over his feelings one way or another.
If only these absurdly beautiful men would stop making that so difficult for him.

NOTE: This was previously a one-shot called Ennui that I have renamed and turned into a multichap. I've also changed the rating to be E, though it's likely to be a soft E/hard M.
In the wake of Edwin's departure the Cat King has fallen into a funk of loneliness and depression. He tries to work through it, but his sadness draws the attention of Despair of the Endless. Cat must get out of his funk and chase away dark thoughts, or he risks a war between the Endless. He decides to take on another form to shake off the dust - Monty's form.
Full of Cat's shapeshifting shenanigans and Monty being along for the ride. This fic is tagged Catcrow but the focus is much more on their swap than their relationship.

“Edwin,” Niko says with an excited gasp. “Are you gardening?”
“Yes.” He fiddles with the small pair of leaf shears sitting on the side of the planter. “It is a recent hobby, but I have discovered I find it rather calming.”
“They’re so pretty. Are they magical plants?” She’s studying them wide-eyed. Edwin smiles, charmed as always.
“No. These are entirely mundane, I assure you.” He points to a cluster of foot-high stems, with tooth-edged triangular leaves and topped by spikes of white flowers. “Nepeta cataria.” Gesturing to the second pot, full of tall stalks with clusters of small pink flowers and pointed, pointy-edged leaves, he adds, “Valerian officinalis.”
“I like the flowers. If they’re not magical, why are you growing them?”
Edwin hides a flustered wince, though whether it escapes Niko’s notice he’s unsure. As usual, she has managed to set her finger directly on the heart of the matter. “I suppose they are…intended as a gift.”
She looks at Edwin with delight. “For who?”
Edwin hesitates, but ultimately shakes his head. Touching a leaf with careful fingers, he avoids her curious eyes. “I have not yet decided whether I will give them or not, so for now I would prefer not to say.”

The dead boy detectives are being hunted. Someone wants them gone for good.
Not having Charles at his side feels like he’s being haunted. A ghost that’s being haunted. It would be funny if it wasn’t tragic. He feels Charles next to him. Sometimes he believes if he looks over his shoulder he’ll be there. Just right there but he isn’t. The lack of Charles’ shape at his side is an ever-constant ache. He is haunted.
